Hit iPhone App Made By 9-Year-Old

One of the best things about the iPhone is the slew of third party applications that are available for download. Indeed, this is one main reason that a lot of people want to get their hands on this phone, despite its many lacking features as a mobile phone. But did you ever think that a kid – a 9-year-old at that – would be able to create a working iPhone app, much less one that would become a hit?

Well this little Malaysian boy from Singapore has done just that! Lim Ding Wen is a prodigy in senses of the word. He first used the computer when he was a mere 2-year-old boy. By the time he was 7, he was already programming. And now, two years later, he has about 20 programming projects to his name!

His latest – and most popular by far – is the iPhone app called Doodle Kids. This application allows users to draw pictures on the iPhone using one’s fingers; much like finger painting. In order to clear the drawing, one only has to shake the iPhone. The concept seems simple enough and seems to be directed towards kids. In fact, he created this app for his little sisters who, according to the boy, love to draw. I think that while becoming famous was not his intent when creating the program, the boy is quite delighted to have had over 4,000 downloads in less than 2 weeks!

His father, who is a chief technology officer at a local firm, is quite proud of his child’s achievements but remains grounded at the same time. Oh, and Lim’s newest project? A sci-fi game for the iPhone. Can’t wait to see how this one fares!
